This past Friday, Hamas announced that it had endorsed certain aspects of Donald Trump's demand to end the war in the Gaza region, consenting to a prisoner swap and to surrender governing authority in the coastal enclave, but indicated that it desired additional discussions on remaining components of the plan.

The group did not specify whether it would comply to lay down its arms – a critical element of Trump's proposal – and remained unclear its response to additional sections of the comprehensive strategy initially suggested by Donald Trump last Monday.

The response remained uncertain how the former president would respond to a qualified response to his proposal, which came just a short time after he issued a weekend deadline for the group to respond. He claimed that if an deal was not achieved "all hell" would ensue against Hamas, whose fighters he described as encircled and cornered.

Major Concessions and Conditions

In a announcement, Hamas said that it was providing its "approval of freeing all Israeli captives – both alive and remains – according to the exchange formula included in Donald Trump's proposal, with the necessary practical arrangements for implementing the swap."

The statement continued to say that Hamas was ready to turn over "governance of the Gaza Strip to a local entity of non-partisan technocrats based on local agreement and supported by Arab and Islamic backing."
