Exploring a Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have found plenty of interesting creations from small studios. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure includes a character that is literally a dung striving to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: you only need a one button to leap. Throughout numerous challenges, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a shop to purchase outfits for your dung hero.

Plan your jumps carefully, since one mistake forces beginning again. Leap off air pockets to propel your character upward, cross crumbling ledges, and interact with triggers to unlock new areas. Earn UN-KOINS for buying challenging levels as gameplay intensifies.

In terms of design, the game boasts vibrant environments and a killer soundtrack. The retro art featuring shifting geometric shapes may remind players of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though hard to think of other games where you play as a coiled turd, gaming often incorporated scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as plant food. Unsurprisingly, such content shows up heavily in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is accessible at present on Steam, with the final release scheduled to debut on computers on November 19.
